Why is Play part of the Davie Academy Program?
Children need caring and responsive relationships through which they learn, play, and develop.
In Davie Academy, learning is seized through play and inquiry-based activities based on the child’s age, development, and setting.
“Playing is learning” and this is the DAVIE ACADEMY way of introducing children to school in the early years.

Music
The integration of music is done on a daily basis. Children learn sounds, letters, shapes, days of the week, seasons and holidays for circle time routines as well as language acquisition and pronunciation skills.
Music allows for children to enjoy learning while gaining memorization techniques based on patterns and notes within the music.

Meals
Healthy meals do more than help children grow, they also support their ability to learn. Kids stay focused longer and develop stronger listening skills when they’re eating well throughout the day. At Davie Academy, we proudly serve breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, all included with tuition.

Movement
Movement is a huge part of early childhood development. When children have the chance to dance, run, jump, and crawl, they not only build their gross motor skills but also get valuable practice communicating and cooperating with their peers. We encourage movement throughout the day — through interactive lessons in the classroom and outdoor play every morning and afternoon.
At Davie Academy, all students go outside twice a day on one of our 3 playgrounds. They also visit our S.T.E.M. room and Sand Room once a week for hands-on exploration. Inside the classroom, our daily plans include a mix of organized activities and free play, giving children plenty of opportunities to learn, communicate, share, and work together.

Literacy
Early literacy lays the foundation for strong reading and writing skills, and it plays a big role in language development. It all starts with print awareness, phonics, and simply being exposed to rich, meaningful language every day. At Davie Academy, our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to build these skills step by step, giving every child the academic advantage they need when they enter kindergarten.
We focus on engaging stories, hands-on activities, and playful learning that helps children recognize letters, sounds, and new vocabulary naturally. Parents can feel confident knowing their child is developing strong early literacy skills while also building confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning that lasts.

Art
The skills gained within activities which are creative and interactive begin with fine motor development, allowing children to practice their pincer grasp, decoding colors, shapes and textures, and much much more.
Art is practiced, appreciated and promoted within each aspect of life within Davie Academy. Beginning with take-home weekly projects and shared collaborations, art is always a part of our curriculum.
