    Play

Why is Play part of the Davie Academy Program?

Children need caring and responsive relationships through which they learn, play and develop.

In Davie Academy, learning is seized through play and inquiry-based activities based on the child’s age, development and setting.

“Playing is learning” and this is the DAVIE ACADEMY way of introducing children to school in the early years.

    Play-Based Instruction

DAVIE Academy gives the best quality instruction based on age appropriate practices and play:

Quality matters for children because there is evidence that shows that quality effects and affects the way children learn and thrive within the institution.

Quality matters for families because the question of wanting the best for one’s child is underlying when choosing the best program, curriculum and environment.

    Play: An Environment

Davie Academy provides an environment for a child to explore, be active and learn with and through play. The aspects of the environment which are vital for development must first and foremost be safe and then promote the senses of curiosity within each individual child.

    Curriculum

An inquiry based curriculum allows children to explore and be creative thinkers and learners. STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) allows for learners of all ages to be excited about the world around them, while learning the basics in literacy and communication, gross-motor skills, fine-motor development, problem-solving, and personal-social skills.

    Assessment

An ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) administered every three months of the child’s development allows for parents and teachers to assess the milestones of the child at home and in school, while focusing on literacy and communication, gross-motor skills, fine-motor development, problem-solving, and personal-social skills. The ASQ screener allows for growth of a strong parent-teacher partnership which enhances student success in learning and thriving in the early education atmosphere.

Steam (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

    Project-Based Approach to Learning

The Project Approach refers to a set of teaching strategies that enable teachers to guide students through in-depth studies of real-world topics

Promotes Curiosity and Exploration with an Individualized Approach to Early Childhood Education

Play and Exploration in early years settings means children are able to choose activities where they can engage with other children or adults or sometimes play alone, and during those activities they learn by first-hand experience – by actively 'doing'.

    Inquiry-Based Lessons

Inquiry-based learning is an approach to learning that emphasizes the student's role in the learning process

Research-Based Preschool Practices, Curriculum and Assessment Measures

It focuses on domain-specific, developmentally appropriate content and skills.

    Our Activities

    Music

The integration of music is done on a daily basis. Children learn sounds, letters, shapes, days of the week, seasons and holidays for circle time routines as well as language acquisition and pronunciation skills. Music allows for children to enjoy learning while gaining memorization techniques based on patterns and notes within the music.

Movement is a vital part of development for young children.
